Okay, so I can't really explain it, but lately I've been obsessed with Degrassi Junior High.

We just got Netflix in our house, and Brad was complaining that I've skewed his "suggested viewing" list because of my weird obsession with 1980s pre-teen drama.

I don't know, I love watching stuff from the '80s! The grainy camera, the funny clothes...and the thing with Degrassi is that it's all filmed in Toronto, so I can see what the city looked like when I was 6 (season one was filmed in 1986).

I never actually watched the show when it was on TV, but I do remember my babysitter boasting that a few of her friends were actors on the show. How kewwwwl. 

Also, as a side note, you have to check out this article about why it's important for us moms to get in family photos. Warning: It might make you cry. Which is why you should follow it up with an episode of Degrassi Junior High.

I don't really read that much anymore. For some reason, it's much more appealing to watch seven consecutive episodes of Storage Wars lately than it is to crack open a book.

This is something I'm hoping to change.

So, this past weekend, Hubby announced he would be heading to Indigo in preparation for a family cottage weekend. There was rain in the forecast, so we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to curl up with a good book!

I started to scan Amazon for potential titles I might like, but then got distracted with some baby-related thing, and forgot to send him my list of favourites. It didn't matter. He's a great book picker-outer, and managed to find something I loved anyway: Let's Pretend this Never Happened, by Jenny Lawson (aka The Blogess).

It seemed appropriate, with my newfound love of blogging. I've literally laughed out loud at more than a few parts. If you're looking for a good (totally quirky/weird) book, I'd check it out.

TGIF! Thank Goodness it's Friday -- and time for a smile! I really need one today. I woke up last night to a crying baby, and then let my thoughts drift to other things -- like work, and money, and my lack of both. And then, of course, I started listing off the gazillion things I have to do and, well, you get the picture. One cup of coffee (and a baby crying fit) later, and I'm ready to face the day!

So here it is, my Friday smile:

I love looking out my window on a sunny day! This view can lift my spirits even when they've hit rock bottom. One of my favourite things to do is sit on my couch, with my laptop in my lap, and write...while looking at this. As much as I might complain about living and working in cramped quarters, it's the price I have to pay for having the city (and lake) at my doorstep!

Who doesn't crack at least a little smile when they see a rainbow? I took this shot a couple of weeks ago, shortly after I got the terrible news about the $700 gift card that my Purse Thief drained after I reported it stolen. I was feeling pretty bummed...but I have to admit this made me feel better!

If you look really closely, you can even see the beginning of a DOUBLE rainbow! 

In other news...I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish my little sister a HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY! I can't believe this photos was taken 30 years ago:

For all the moms out there who have received unsolicited advice from total strangers, you have to check out this article on Timothy McSweeney's Internet Tendency. It's called "Hello Stranger on the Street, Could you Please Tell Me How to Take Care of my Baby?"...and it literally made me laugh out loud!

Because I couldn't resist, here's an exerpt (and my favourite part):

Yes, he IS crying, isn’t he? You are right. He’s probably hungry. Should I feed him? And if so, where do I put the food? His eyeball? His butt? What kinds of cuts of meat do babies like? Should I not give him hot peppers? How much salt is too much, and when can I expect him to use a knife? If he spits up, should I have him put to sleep? There are just so many things I need to know, and that is why I rely on total strangers like you who happen to be experts on child care.
